Item Description
FDR specialist Mark Furr did a series of articles to share his lamps and clocks with APIC members. He described his "Five Kings" in the Spring, 2007 Keynoter. The "King" designation is based on rarity. Here is his condensed description of "The Third King." "This Absolutely Magnificent Lamp Captured My Attention From The First Day I Was Made Aware Of Its Existence. It Measures 10-7/8" Lengthwise Across The Base And Stands 8.5" Tall (To The Base OF The Light). On Each Side Of President Roosevelt's 3D Profile, Stand Two Majestic Eagles Facing Away From Each Other. The Eagles Are Perched Upon A Series Of Four Steps, With Their Talons Firmly Grasping The Top Two Steps. Very Defined Feathers Cover Their Wings And Necks, But Every Other Part Of Them Is Smooth. The Back Of The Lamp Is Without Any Design, Whatsoever, Except For The Eyes Of The Eagles, Which Complete Their Faces. The Back Is Also Marked 'Gibralter Electric Clock Co. Inc., Jersey City NJ, Pat Pend, Model 270'. Returning To The Front, There Is A 4.5" Diameter Circle Containing A 3D Bust Of Franklin Roosevelt, Which Protrudes Outward Over One Inch. The President Is Smiling Slightly And Attired In A Dress Shirt, Tie, And Suit Jacket. His Name Is Divided And Written On Each Side Of His Face In A Semi-Circle. At The Base Of The Lamp Are The Words 'Spirit Of 1933' Bordered On Each Side By Three, One Inch Horizontal Lines." A spot of bronze color is off the left bkg., a thin line off the bridge of FDR's nose, and some tiny dots off the base. Extremely Fine overall. Comes with a generic shade as shown in the Keynoter. Working and rare. See next item #54.
