Item Description
2-5/8x3.5". This set of slightly oversized cards features drawings by R.G. Laughlin. The artwork is printed in brown and light tan with backs printed in brown on white stock. The set features many of the greatest players from the Negro Leagues and represents the true Rookie Card for many Hall of Famers and stars of the day. A second Laughlin card set was issued four years later, presenting several of the remaining Negro League Hall of Famers not included within the 1974 issue.

Biz Mackey was widely considered to be the greatest hitting catcher in Negro League baseball for two decades, spanning 1920-40. Mackey starred for two of the preeminent NL ball clubs of the era, the Hilldale Daisies and Newark Eagles. Biz is also given credit for mentoring a young Roy Campanella during his early professional baseball days with the Baltimore Elite Giants. Mackey was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.
