Item Description
5.25x2-1/16". An innovative issue for 1951, the Topps team cards were a nine-card set, which carry a black-and-white picture of a major league team surrounded by a yellow border on the front. The back identifies team members with red printing on white cardboard. There are two versions of each card, with and without the date (1950" in the banner that carries the team name. Undated versions are valued slightly higher than the cards with dates. Strangely only nine teams were issued. Scarcity varies, with the Cardinals and Red Sox being the most difficult to obtain.
Notable members of team include coach Stanley Raymond "Bucky" Harris (1896 - 1977) an American professional baseball second baseman, manager and executive. Career highlights include being in the Washington Nationals Ring of Honor, a two time World Series champion and National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee. Also included are: Canadian Hall of Famer Sherry Robertson (1919-1970), Mexcian Professional Baseball Hall of Famer Roberto Ortiz and Cuban Baseball Hall of Famer Connie Marrero.
