Item Description
1.5x2.25" card from the second of three annual issues during the Puerto Rican League winter seasons, these cards are similar to the previous year's set. 216 cards in the set. Glossy bw photo front w/text on back in red which serves as a "Play" designation for use as a card game.
In our Jan. 2025 auction another CGC 1 Poor example sold for $869.
Tetelo Vargas was one of the greatest Latin/Negro League ballplayers of all-time. Vargas' playing career spanned 26 seasons from 1927-53, playing primarily for the Cuban Stars and New York Cubans in the U.S. as well as many winters in Puerto Rico and, in later, years, Mexico. Tetelo was a terrific all-around player who excelled in center field while hitting for both average and power as well as being a top base stealer.
